Following completion of his undergraduate studies at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Dr. Sacks graduated from the University of Southern California School of Medicine (USC) with highest honors (AOA). His surgical residency training was interrupted by the Vietnam conflict. Serving in the United States Navy, Dr. Sacks rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and became the Medical Officer for the Amphibious Forces of the Unites States Seventh Fleet. For his distinquished service in Vietnam, Dr. Sacks was awarded a Navy Citation.

Dr. Sacks returned to UCLA to complete his training in general surgery and urology. He has been as associate clinical professor of surgery/urology at the UCLA Medical Center and was the clinical chief of urology at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. For almost 15 years, Dr. Sacks served as consultant, task force chairman, and editor of the Examinations Committee of the American Board of Urology. Dr. Sacks has lectured and has published extensively, and most recently participated in the establishment of the Federal Prostate Treatment Guidelines mandated by the Agency for Healthcare Policy and Research and was one of the coauthors of the Health and Human Services publication entitled “Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: Diagnosis and Treatment.”

Dr. Sacks served as a member, Task Force Chairman, and Editor of the Examinations Committee of the American Board of Urology. He was one of the authors of the Federal Government Agency for Health Care Policy and Research -mandated guidelines for the evaluation and treatment of BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia).
