What is vaginal rejuvenation?
Vaginal rejuvenation refers to a group of procedures designed to improve the appearance, function, and sensation of the vaginal area. These procedures can be either surgical or non-surgical. Often, women who have experienced changes due to childbirth, aging, or menopause are interested in vaginal rejuvenation.

What are the reasons that women opt for vaginal rejuvenation treatments?
The reasons are very personal and depend on the individual patient. However, the reasons are often related to improving a woman’s quality of life, self-esteem, and overall well-being.
Physically, these procedures address various concerns, including:
- Vaginal laxity (looseness)
- Sexual dysfunction
- Urinary incontinence (leakage)
- Discomfort during intercourse
- Cosmetic concerns
Most of these treatments are outpatient, with recovery times varying depending on the procedure.
What are the common vaginal rejuvenation procedures
Depending on your goals, several aesthetic/plastic surgery procedures are available at Tower Urology. They include:
- Vaginoplasty
Vaginoplasty tightens loose vaginal muscles and corrects vaginal wall defects. - Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty reduces or reshapes the inner and outer vaginal lips. - Monsplasty
Monsplasty removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the area above the genitals. - Perineoplasty
Perineoplasty tightens the area between the vagina and anus.
What is vaginoplasty?
Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure used for vaginal tightening. It is often referred to as “vaginal rejuvenation.” Vaginoplasty aims to tighten and reshape the vaginal canal and surrounding tissues.
This procedure is typically sought by women who have experienced changes in their vaginal anatomy due to childbirth, aging, or other factors, such as hormonal changes after menopause. These changes can lead to symptoms like vaginal laxity (looseness), reduced sexual satisfaction, or discomfort during physical activities. Vaginoplasty can help address these issues by restoring the vaginal tone and structure, which may lead to an improvement in physical comfort and an enhancement of sexual function.
How long does the recovery from vaginoplasty take?
Vaginoplasty recovery usually involves a few weeks of downtime. During this time, you’ll need to avoid strenuous activities, heavy lifting, and sexual intercourse to allow the tissues to heal properly. While many women report improved vaginal tightness and enhanced sexual pleasure after the procedure, it’s important to have realistic expectations and understand that individual results can vary.
What is labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure designed to reshape or reduce the size of the labia minora (the inner folds) and sometimes the labia majora (the outer folds) of the vulva.
For some, labiaplasty falls under the category of cosmetic procedures, which are used to achieve a more “tucked in” look or correct asymmetry (unequally sized folds). This type of cosmetic surgery is considered elective and is not covered by medical insurance.
However, for many others, the purpose of this labial surgery is to relieve physical discomfort caused by excess tissue (including activities like exercise or intercourse), which can be due to genetics, aging, or childbirth. In this circumstance, some insurance plans may cover the surgery if they consider it medically necessary.
How long does the recovery from labiaplasty take?
Most patients can return to work and light daily activities within one to two weeks, although they may still experience some swelling, soreness, and mild discomfort during this period. Most swelling typically subsides by six weeks.
After this point, you can usually resume sexual activity and more vigorous exercise, provided that your surgeon approves after your follow-up visits.
What is monsplasty?
Monsplasty (also called a pubic lift) is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the mons pubis—the mound of tissue located just above the pubic bone and typically covered with pubic hair. This area can become enlarged or saggy due to changes in weight, aging, pregnancy, or genetic factors. Monsplasty aims to lift, tighten, and reshape the mons pubis, resulting in a flatter, firmer, and more contoured appearance.
Although the procedure is often performed for cosmetic reasons, it can also improve comfort, hygiene, and sexual function if excess tissue causes physical discomfort or interferes with daily activities.
How long does the recovery from monsplasty take?
Recovery from monsplasty is generally straightforward and relatively quick for most patients. You can expect to return home on the same day as your surgery. Most patients experience mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the first few days, but these symptoms usually improve within one to two weeks.
Many patients can return to light daily activities or desk work within about a week; however, those with physically demanding jobs may require more time off. For proper healing, strenuous activities, heavy lifting, and exercise should be avoided for about four to six weeks. Swelling may persist for up to six weeks, and the incision may take up to eight weeks to fully heal.
What is perineoplasty?
Perineoplasty is a surgical procedure that repairs and tightens the perineum—the area of tissue between the vaginal opening and the anus. This area can become stretched, loose, or scarred due to childbirth, trauma, aging, or other factors. This may lead to discomfort, decreased sexual satisfaction, or even issues like incontinence.
During the procedure, your surgeon will remove excess skin or scar tissue, repair the underlying muscles, and close the incision with stitches. The goal is to restore both the function and appearance of the perineal area, often resulting in a narrower vaginal opening and improved support for the pelvic floor muscles.
How long does the recovery from perineoplasty take?

Most patients recover from perineoplasty in about six to eight weeks, though everyone is different, and some may heal faster or slower. In the first few days after surgery, you can expect some swelling and discomfort, which are usually managed with pain relievers and home care like sitz baths.
Most patients can return to work or light daily activities within a few days. Still, it’s important to avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, swimming, and sexual intercourse for at least six weeks to allow the area to heal correctly.
The sutures (stitches) typically dissolve on their own over several weeks. Complete healing—including the return to all normal activities and sexual function—usually occurs by the end of the six- to eight-week period. Your plastic surgeon will provide specific guidance based on your progress.
What are the risks of vaginal rejuvenation surgeries?
Like any surgery, vaginal rejuvenation surgeries carry side effects and risks, such as infection, bleeding, scarring, changes in sensation, etc. All risks will be thoroughly described and discussed by your Tower Urology surgeon. Your surgeon will also take the time to answer all your questions fully.
It’s also important to note that in most cases, vaginal rejuvenation surgeries are considered cosmetic or elective procedures. This means that they are usually not covered by insurance. The exception is when such a surgical procedure is being performed to address a medical condition, such as pelvic organ prolapse.
Is vaginal rejuvenation surgery right for you?
Before considering any procedure, we’ll discuss your goals, medical history, and any symptoms you’re experiencing. We’ll also evaluate whether you’re a good candidate for any procedure and explain any alternative options, such as non-surgical treatments, which sometimes can achieve similar results.
We strive to ensure that our patients feel confident and comfortable with their treatment plans, helping them achieve optimal results.
Are there non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation treatment options?
Absolutely! Our in-office non-surgical procedures include:
Radiofrequency treatments
Radiofrequency energy waves produce heat. The heat stimulates collagen production and tightens tissue.
Laser therapy
Lasers can help improve vaginal tissue and muscle tone.
Electrical stimulation
This helps exercise the vaginal and pelvic floor muscles to tighten and improve muscle tone.
