How did a woman with a lifetime of recurrent bladder infections wind up with a urologist whose specialty is male fertility?
It happened like this...Dr. Houman was recommended to my husband when he began having the prostate problems that can devastate older men. Dr. Houman solved his urinary difficulties, and I'm convinced, kept him from the fate of a constant catheter.
Naturally, I jumped at the chance to be his patient, and have been, for the first time in my life, free for several months of any infections.

I've been working with Dr. Houman for a few months now after a complication from a surgery. I was referred to Dr. Houman and he assured me that we would get the issue resolved. After multiple failed attempts of finding an Urologist I could trust in Santa Clarita - closer to home - I began looking elsewhere. Dr. Houman had exceptional reviews online and I decided to switch Urologists and brave the traffic over to Cedars for his care.
Dr. Houman is sincere and intentional with the care of his patients e.g. follow up phone calls, texts, emails etc. He is collaborative in his approach - educating you along the way - and provides clarity with his goals for your health. with urologist who is past his prime.
I couldn't get help after my TURP surgery.
For 3 months (90 days) I was in great discomfort, unable to urinate without extreme pain. 40 times a day,wanting to cry !
My Bakersfield urologist said there was NOTHING he could do to help me. A friend sent me to Dr. Josephine. I prayed for a miracle and Dr. Josephson kindly obliged.
No further surgery was needed! Dr.Josephson took the "time" to examine me and found the issue immediately and I left his office as happy a child !!

I?m redoing my review because something went wrong when I pasted it and copied my initial review.
I have never in my life thought or said that a doctor saved my life until I met Dr. Kuhlmann. I came to her in a complete medical crisis. I have been suffering from chronic UTIs and vaginal infections that were seemingly resistant to treatment with antibiotics. I have a high pain tolerance but the pain I was experiencing was off the charts
Her office staff and assistants were very friendly. When she came in, she immediately put me at ease, she was friendly and very personable. It was the end of the day and I?m sure she wanted to go home as quick as possible, but she was not leaving that room until she found out and knew exactly what was wrong with me. She ran every test and procedure that she could, sat and listened to my entire history, which was a lot and everything else I had to say. I have never felt so listened and understood so much in my life. As soon as I was done, telling her everything I had been going through and my history, she knew exactly what was wrong with me. She diagnosed me with pelvic floor dysfunction. I have a long hard journey ahead of me, but she put me in the exact direction I needed to be with medication, supplements, and physical therapy.
I truly saw no way out of the nightmare. I was living in with my health and she put me on the path to help me recover and I?m eternally thankful.
I also want to add that trying to find new doctors many of them know who doctor Kuhlmann is and their face always lights up with a smile when I mention her name. That just speaks volumes.

It is very “early days” for me to be opining on my day of surgery four days back. I really wish my surgeon had dropped by while I was in recovery to tell me how things went. Instead, I felt a bit left in limbo, at least until the following day, when, after being scolded for inadvertently losing suction on my drain bulb, it was revealed to me that indeed the surgery had gone well. Communications have improved using email/text and I feel more a part of my healing process.

What an outstanding experience I recently had with Tower Urology in Los Angeles, particularly with Dr. Justin Houman, Dr Katz, and the entire clinic staff.
I live in Memphis, Tennessee. My wife conducted thorough research on leading urologists across the country, and Dr. Houman’s name consistently ranked at the top. We already had a trip planned to Los Angeles, and the staff went out of their way to accommodate my travel schedule, securing an appointment with Dr. Houman during our visit, as well as two follow up visits prior to our departure from LA.
Over the years I have consulted several urologists. None have matched the level of thorough testing, careful analysis, clear and detailed explanations, effective and successful treatment, and overall professionalism that I received from Dr. Houman and PA Katz. The care was exceptional from start to finish.
I feel like a new man as a result of their treatment and the excellent outcomes. Because of this experience, I definitely will be traveling from Memphis to Tower Urology just for my regular future appointments and care. I cannot imagine receiving better testing, treatment, or results anywhere else.

The Bulkamid procedure room seemed not very clean. I saw dirt around equipment. And steins on the curtain. I also could see through to another space??? And I could see a black stained ceiling tile??? After the procedure they told me to urinate. So I had to walk into a hallway filled with men in my paper cover?!! I also thought the bathroom was terrible. Seemed old and dirty. Unorganized. Inefficient. The procedure room seemed way too small and it seemed like she didn’t have the size dilator she wanted. I like Dr Kuhlman. Renovate these rooms ASAP.

Dr. Leach seems to be a good doctor. His decision to do a prostate biopsy due to a short term rise in my PSA, even though it was under 3, was quite fortunate. What I missed was a knowledgeable evaluation of the choice between radiation treatment and surgery and the choice between the 5 day and 20 day treatment protocol. After the fact - I should have chosen the 20 day because the after effects of the short term radiation treatment may have prevented me from getting stents for arterial blockages (though the 20 day may have had the same result). I also talked to a second doctor (Jacobsen?) regarding surgery and he only told me I'd need to have the cancer treated at some point with minimal info on the decision.
The Medtronic devise I had implanted is a work in progress and I am still experimenting with the settings. They are satisfactory but could be better.

I do have a suggestion for improvement: Because of COVID concerns, after I check in, I wait on Third Street, outside the Tower Urology main entrance, until I am called to enter the exam area. And I move around a bit to avoid the traffic of people entering and leaving the office. At my last visit, when a receptionist opened the front door, stepped halfway out, and called my name, I didn’t hear her right away. This was due to car traffic noise and my slightly age-diminished hearing. She had to repeat my name a couple of times. As a result, she seemed visibly irritated and frustrated with me. I did not appreciate that reaction.
The simple solution is to call or text me when it is time for me to enter the exam area. They have done this occasionally in the past.
