How did a woman with a lifetime of recurrent bladder infections wind up with a urologist whose specialty is male fertility?
It happened like this...Dr. Houman was recommended to my husband when he began having the prostate problems that can devastate older men. Dr. Houman solved his urinary difficulties, and I'm convinced, kept him from the fate of a constant catheter.
Naturally, I jumped at the chance to be his patient, and have been, for the first time in my life, free for several months of any infections.
But the best part of being Dr. Houman's patient is this. When you are in trouble, he will keep in constant touch with you...he does not isolate himself behind a wall of nurses. Naturally, I recommend him highly,

After multiple failed attempts of finding an Urologist I could trust in Santa Clarita - closer to home - I began looking elsewhere. Dr. Houman had exceptional reviews online and I decided to switch Urologists and brave the traffic over to Cedars for his care.
Dr. Houman is sincere and intentional with the care of his patients e.g. follow up phone calls, texts, emails etc. He is collaborative in his approach - educating you along the way - and provides clarity with his goals for your health. Dr.Josephson was an Answer to many prayers! I recently had surgery in Bakersfield
with urologist who is past his prime.
I couldn't get help after my TURP surgery.
For 3 months (90 days) I was in great discomfort, unable to urinate without extreme pain. 40 times a day,wanting to cry !
My Bakersfield urologist said there was NOTHING he could do to help me. A friend sent me to Dr. Josephine. I prayed for a miracle and Dr. Josephson kindly obliged.
No further surgery was needed! Dr.Josephson took the "time" to examine me and found the issue immediately and I left his office as happy a child !!

I?m redoing my review because something went wrong when I pasted it and copied my initial review.
I have never in my life thought or said that a doctor saved my life until I met Dr. Kuhlmann. I came to her in a complete medical crisis. I have been suffering from chronic UTIs and vaginal infections that were seemingly resistant to treatment with antibiotics. I have a high pain tolerance but the pain I was experiencing was off the charts
Her office staff and assistants were very friendly. When she came in, she immediately put me at ease, she was friendly and very personable. It was the end of the day and I?m sure she wanted to go home as quick as possible, but she was not leaving that room until she found out and knew exactly what was wrong with me. She ran every test and procedure that she could, sat and listened to my entire history, which was a lot and everything else I had to say. I have never felt so listened and understood so much in my life. As soon as I was done, telling her everything I had been going through and my history, she knew exactly what was wrong with me. She diagnosed me with pelvic floor dysfunction. I have a long hard journey ahead of me, but she put me in the exact direction I needed to be with medication, supplements, and physical therapy.
I truly saw no way out of the nightmare. I was living in with my health and she put me on the path to help me recover and I?m eternally thankful.
I also want to add that trying to find new doctors many of them know who doctor Kuhlmann is and their face always lights up with a smile when I mention her name. That just speaks volumes.

I have had a simple prostatectomy with your doctors, which was complicated by a difficult and lengthy urinary tract infection. After time, and upon further inspection, I was told that the urine flow, which is still quite weak, may now be restricted by scar tissue. In my last visit, after urinating into a funnel, I was told that my stream was "normal."
My everyday life experience does not support that finding. I have, understandably, limited faith in further procedures with your clinic.

Dr. Josephson has always been helpful to me you suggested a procedure to reduce urgency and to eliminate urine in the bladder through a process to reduce the prostate. I'm disappointed in not receiving my urinalysis results in a timely manner. I had a follow-up appointment with my urologist, and a urinalysis specimen was taken. I had expected the results the next day, as I know that this test has a short turn-around-time. The office staff said she would email the results, but the results I received did not include my urinalysis results. I had to call over several days to get these results. It was frustrating to have to keep calling to get these results.
One way I believe to prevent this would be for the office to be on CS Link, as are all of my other doctors.

We were told we would get test results back within a week… none of that occurred. We feel badly calling to inquire as we don’t want to bother anyone but it is now the end of week two and just received the urinalysis results but no cat scan results…this was after a few phone calls.
We are concerned about how to proceed from here… it does not feel like we are important . A cat scan was ordered as the doc was either looking to rule “ something” in or rule “ it” out… we’d like to know which we are dealing with.

The nurse is always friendly and takes my blood, promptly followed by the ultrasound tech who is always pleasant helping with any nervousness. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Danoff arrives also in a jovial mood to make seeing the doctor a pleasure.

Getting the team to submit the prior authorization request for XIAFLEX was frustrating and the communication was not great. Even now, I see in the system with my provider (UHC), that the prescription is on Hold, and that additional information is needed from the prescriber, and I have not been contacted by Tower Urology. I understand insurance is cumbersome and difficult, but regular and proactive communication with the patient would result in me giving a score of 10.

As a Cedars patient with a number of my doctors coordinated int o the central CS link system it is frustrating that Tower separate system is ring fenced and not linked and portable to the main CS records for the patient as well as the doctors. Conditions and health is clearly integrated between specialties and the health of the patient needs to be digitally coherent.
Especially with the onset of prompt generated patient and physician health care this needs to be fixed.

Dr. Houman and Mr. Katz are wonderful care givers. Both made efforts to address issues and kept in touch when needed. I did have issues with the scheduler, Joanna Cativo. For years I gave my dates in advance. Then, in a reply to an email I sent on March 16, 2026 she said concerning my scheduling request that, "... it takes too much time, and I have 3 doctors I take care off. You need to schedule them as you check out and call Maria Dr Houman’s assistant for that appointment."
The appointment she's referring to is my three month checkup with Dr Houman which I coordinate with an appointment David Katz on the same day.
I don't know all the responsibilities Ms. Cativo has, but I image scheduling clients is one of them since clients keep your business going.
In an email dated September 23, 2024 she basically said I didn't mention certain dates for scheduling, and even after I quoted from an email I sent regarding the dates in question she continued to deny it. The email discussion is probably still on your servers if you care to pursue.
Other one on one discussions took place which are not documented. Nevertheless, this has given me pause as to continuing with Tower Urology.

My only probably was with parking. I’ve never been to Cedars before. I parked in the lot closest to the building. I couldn’t find my car, and walked around for 20 minutes, never saw a number to call if I was lost. Finally, a stranger came up to me and said he would help me. Given that my diagnosis was kidney stones, if he hadn’t approached me, it would have turned into a crisis. I am 76, and couldn’t have walked any more. I think Tower's 48 hour cancellation policy is unrealistic and sending a $100 fee is wrong headed. A 'no show' is one thing; a person who calls to let Tower know that they can not come in is another thing entirely.
I gave Tower 24 hour cancellation and am getting $100 charge notifications in the mail. If I get one more I will simply find another doctor!
